Visiting Ring Lake

Ring Lake

Ring Lake, located in the Wind River Mountains, is beautiful and easily accessible.  It's a great place to enjoy the cool mountain breezes in the heat of summer.  This area is also home to mountain sheep, and many locals come here to catch a glimpse of them moving across Whiskey Mt. Just up the road is a trailhead which leads hikers and mountain climbers to some of the highest peaks in Wyoming.  Another exciting feature in this area is that it is the location of several very good petroglyphs, estimated to be thousands of years old.  Several very good ones are on the rock pictured below.

A closer look

For anyone interested in learning more about petroglyphs in Wyoming and Montana, I highly recommend the book Ancient Visions by Julie E. Francis and Lawrence L. Loendorf.

  1. Welcome to the neighborhood! Lovely views - and thank you for the petroglyph - gosh, is it just sitting there? no protection? no forklifts waiting to steal it???
